What a sight this must have been, circa 1936. "Just imagine" looking skyward in downtown Manhattan -- and seeing this silent monster floating above! This is the impressive, hydrogen-filled Zeppelin from Germany called Hindenburg. It had been flying for a year before its fatal mooring May 6, 1937, at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in Manchester Township, New Jersey.

The piano music heard under dialogue is unmistakably James P. Johnson. The film is THE EMPEROR JONES, starring Paul Robeson, Fredi Washington, Ruby Elzy, Dudley Digges, Frank H. Wilson. Moms Mabley (as Marcella) appears in butch drag with a short, short, mannish hair cut. Directed by Dudley Murphy. Released September 29, 1933.

Myrna Loy, singing, dancing, strutting, paying her dues to become a big Hollywood star. Also in the film: Loretta Young, Conway Tearle, David Manners and J. Farrell MacDonald. "Playin' Around" and "Daddy, I Have To Have You" are performed by Miss Loy. Please advise if you know who the voice dubber is. When the movie was released, even "The Billboard" weekly made note of the dubbing.

Billed as "Ming and Toy," the man (Ming) plays ukulele, accordion and cracks stereotype jokes. He plays a prestissimo version of "Sweet Sue - Just You" then does a little juggling. His little friend, Toy, breaks into a Cab Calloway impersonation, while singing "Sing a Little Low Down Tune."
